We arrived at HK late-ish in the afternoon. After checking in to our accommodation at Stanford Hotel, the first thing that came to my mind was the delicious dim sum, Tim Ho Wan. The shop is located directly behind our hotel, so we headed there in no time. To my horror, the shop was nowhere to be seen. We did a quick search on Google only to discover that the shop has been relocated at another area.

Feeling gutted by the closure of Tim Ho Wan, we quickly looked at our food map, and thus ended up at Dimdimsum Dim Sum Specialty Store located at Tung Choi Street, about 3 blocks away from Tim Ho Wan.

Since it was already past lunch hour, the shop was quite empty and we got our seat easily. Service was prompt and since the ordering system was similar like THW, we had no problems getting our order sorted.

Macau/HK 2013 – Gelatina Mok Yi Kei 莫義記, Casa de Pasto Seng Cheong 城昌饭店

Our limited time in Macau did give us plenty of headache when it comes to food. While spoilt for choice, we also wanted to have something memorable and unique in Macau. There were two options in Taipa, Restaurante Dumbo 小飛象葡國餐 that serves mean Macanese food and Casa de Pasto Seng Cheong 城昌饭店, a Chinese restaurant that serves delicious crab porridge. But before that…

I love Rua do Cunha 官也街. It’s a small street in Taipa but do not underestimate it. It’s full of character and erm.. food too. I first explored this street two years ago and making a return for something that I truly missed – durian ice cream.

Gelatina Mok Yi Kei 莫義記 is the first shop you will see when you come down from the bus and don’t be fooled by the shop’s normal appearance.

My tour mates were still dazed from their first bus ride in Macau, so while waiting for them to ‘recover’, I hurriedly went over to the shop and bought my favourite durian ice cream.

After the delicious tarts which warmed up our hungry tummy, we took a short walk to Senado Square 議事亭前地. Since it was still CNY, the atmosphere was lively with CNY decoration adorning the place.

Macau/HK 2013 – Margaret’s Café e Nata 玛嘉烈蛋挞

Mar 20, 13 at 12:54 am

It was the fifteenth day of CNY and we have landed safely at Macau International Airport. We spent quite some time looking for our shuttle bus to our hotel (Note: City of Dreams, if you read this, you really need to improve your shuttle service at the airport!), and finally after all the hassle, we started the very first thing in my itinerary, Margaret’s Café e Nata.

If you want to try the legendary Macanese egg tarts but don’t want to go all the way to Lord Stow’s in Coloane, this busy cafe (supposedly founded by Stow’s ex-wife) does an equally sweet and melty version. At least we can’t tell the difference. It also has good-value sandwiches. Lonely Planet

Saigon Stories – Com Tam Cali

Dec 15, 12 at 1:13 am

Our first lunch in rustic Saigon was pretty memorable. We were famished and thought of getting our lunch at Ben Thanh market since it is nearby our hotel. So, we were walking along Lê Thánh Tôn street towards the market when we stumbled upon this small cafe/restaurant called Cơm Tấm Cali and immediately, we were sold.

The ever friendly staffs ushered us in and we duly got our seats. As we noticed, the staffs spoke very little English but luckily there is English translation in the menu so we were not completely lost. Also, the apparently signature dishes also plastered on both side of the walls, making our decision-making process even more simple.
