Eat, Shop and See @ Macau

Macau didn’t really impress me on my first visit two years back. Blame it on my lack of research because I thought there isn’t much to do there since we were just spending a night. At the end of the day, I just wished we did not come in the first place.

But that was two years ago. This time, I spent quite an effort planning it and I’m just glad to say, although we only hit 70% of my planned itinerary, the outcome turned out pretty good.

Our first stop of the was Rua do Cunha, which is located at Taipa. This is the street famous with few things – Casa de Pasto Seng Cheong, Gelatina Mok Yi Kei and Pastelaria Fong Kei. Seng Cheong is popular for its water crab congee but we did not try as we had our lunch somewhere earlier.

Gelatina Mok Yi Kei is famous for its durian ice cream and sawdust pudding. I only tried the former as I did not aware of the sawdust pudding. The durian ice cream is full of flavour and they are quite generous with the amount of durian they put in.

Taman Negara Getaway (4)

There were so many people waiting in line and we were not excluded. But alas, after an hour or so, our group was called up and we duly lined up for it. And soon, we were up walking in the middle of the jungle. The canopy walkway is 10 metres high, so it was an enjoyable walk and to be able to see more of the rainforest from high up was an awesome experience.

I couldn’t recall much about the canopy walk because it happened too fast or maybe I was busy taking photos. So, let the photos do the talking.

Day 2.

We woke up rather late by travel standards, and since breakfast is provided at the hotel itself, we duly prepared for the day’s activities before heading out.

Breakfast at hotel was nice and after that, we took the pickup truck provided by the hotel and made our way back to LBK to begin our activities. Again, with the same group of people we met the previous night and we waited patiently for the boat to come and pick us up.

Taman Negara Getaway (2)

Quick Info: Taman Negara, which literally means “national park” in Malay, is the world’s oldest tropical rainforest encompassing a total area of 4343 km². The most popular access to Taman Negara is via Kuala Tembeling, which is about 10 minutes drive from Jerantut. The 3 hours boat ride offers you a rich experience of the nature and the exotic scenery. Alternatively, you can also drive to Kuala Tahan, which is the gateway to Taman Negara from Jerantut. The town is easily accessible via the East Coast Expressway (exit Temerloh). After checking in and refreshed ourselves, we returned to LBK for dinner. It wasn’t nice but as long as it fills up my stomach, I am not complaining. In the midst of the dinner, we were shown an introductory video of TN – be warned though, you won’t be able to see most of the things as shown in the video. 😛

Dinner!
Not a nice dinner though…

The sky was pitch-black by the time we finished our dinner. We then waited for the guide who briefed us on that night’s activity. We also had to wait a little bit longer for the river taxi which will bring us across the river to Taman Negara.

28-30 May 2010.

Had to put in the actual date because I tend to post outdated things.

So, the 5 of us crazily signed up for 3D2N package to Taman Negara, Pahang. I have mentioned this place 38920593 times in front of my friends each time they ask for places to travel. The reality is, I have made it finally and it was an awesome trip albeit some misadventures. 🙂

We drove all the way to Jerantut on a slow but lovely Friday morning. Almost got lost in some Felda plantation due to stupid Garmin navigation but emerged unscathed after 30 minutes driving past the darn plantation. Reached NKS Cafe at around noon for registration and lunch which was provided as part of the package. There were a lot of people especially angmohs joining the trip that day.

The package comes with lunch + T-shirt.

Since it was Friday and the shuttle bus which will bring us to Kuala Tembeling jetty not scheduled to depart until 2PM, we drove around the quiet town, shopped a bit before heading back and had some drinks at a nearby coffee shop.
